Objective: To transform the name of a renowned chef into a Brand Identity.

Constant started his career in 1988 as a chef at the Hôtel de Crillon, in Paris, then at the Ritz Place Vendome. He now owns and operates 6 different restaurant concepts. Inventor of the trend known as “Bistronomie”, Chef Constant features authentic and quality food: when “haute cuisine” meets “bistro cuisine.”


Project

Christian Constant is considered one of the founding fathers of French gastronomy; he has also hired illustrious chefs such as Eric Frechon and Emmanuel Renaut (3 Michelin stars) to work alongside him in his restaurants.

Member of the jury of the Top Chef program for five consecutive years, Chef Constant recently received the 2018 European Chef Mentor award from the Michelin guide in tribute to his work.

Christian Constant asked frenchCALIFORNIA to create his global brand image. The challenge: how to make the legendary name of a chef a strong and desirable brand.

Design

A logo with a sleek and elegant design in which the two intertwined Cs recall the prestigious journey of the Chef in the most beautiful Parisian palaces.

It needed to be an identity that is inspired by the tradition of the great Parisian five star hotels and Palaces.

A pictorial universe both elegant and refined, punctuated by notes of authenticity and terroir is deployed, using illustrations of the Chef’s culinary universe (poultry, hams, generous vegetables or even the famous casseroles, one of his culinary signatures, and restaurants).


Sales Activation: When the brand comes alive and evolves according to events and seasons.

All assets are developed through the lens of the new identity according to each location’s personality and seasonality: restaurant menus, websites, newsletters, events design, gift cards etc.

Delivery and Take-Out: new challenges and new opportunities.

Ideation, concept and design development of the To-Go offer: how to reproduce and maintain the dine-in experience all the way through to take-out and delivery.

In 2019, Christian Constant launched his first food truck; a new experience of bistro chic street cuisine. This marked the inception of replicating the restaurant experience at home for Constant.

frenchCALIFORNIA worked on the entire concept, including :

  • Design of the food truck

  • Creation of a dedicated iconography

  • Take-out sales collateral assets and methodology

  • Design of to-go menus and cards

  • Creation of new packaging suited to various dish types and recipes

  • Reheating and preparation instructions as well as tips on how to fully experience the restaurant experience at home
