The penthouse of a new Robert A.M. Stern-designed building in San Francisco has hit the market for $5.75 million, Mansion Global has learned. The Robert Residence, as the seventh-floor penthouse is known, was designed by the bicoastal firm frenchCALIFORNIA, which brought some international flair to the project.

Guillaume Coutheillas, founder of frenchCALIFORNIA, designed the residence around features like the millwork and crown molding, bringing in a “soft, soothing” color palette to give it a sense of peace. Mr. Coutheillas also developed an off-white paint called Crescent White that will only be available to residents of the building.

“You’re drawn toward the living room and then the outdoor space,” Mr. Coutheillas said. “We really wanted the flow to feel natural and open.”

It’s a Parisian house in the heart of San Francisco.
— Guillaume Coutheillas, founder of frenchCALIFORNIA

“Downstairs, you’re in a city environment, like Paris,” Mr. Coutheillas explained. “You go upstairs and you start seeing a little bit of the ocean and then you feel like you’re in the south of France.”

The Robert Residence

The model Penthouse, which represents one of only four breathtaking penthouse homes within Crescent, showcases an effortless Parisian aesthetic that accentuates the building’s art deco-inspired architecture, including formal entry foyers, custom moldings, and pre-war design layouts. Sophisticated appointments by Champalimaud Design are seamlessly underscored throughout the home, creating a welcoming and engaging atmosphere. The spacious 2-bedroom, 2.5-bath residence presents 1,465 square feet of open floor interiors with unique furniture and art pieces befitting of seasoned art collectors, design enthusiasts, and bon vivants alike, including never-before-seen pieces by French designer Christophe DelCourt, B&B Italia and CC-Tapis. The home also features 1,221 square feet of luxurious outdoor space in the form of several private terraces that provide a unique indoor-outdoor San Francisco living experience.

Upon entry, residents are immediately captivated by brilliant city views, which are complimented by muted warm tones that highlight the art deco lines created by RAMSA’s architecture. frenchCALIFORNIA worked with local color manufacturers to create a selection of custom paint colors including the bespoke ‘Crescent White’ from Color Atelier, which is only available to Crescent residents. A selection of coffee and side tables crafted from natural wood and stone evoke a unified sense of warmth, happiness, and calm. Vibrant art pieces range from contemporary photography and prints to paintings and sculptures, which infuse the space with a sophisticated viewpoint of a well-travelled patron of the arts.

The dining area adjoins the graciously scaled living room in an open layout that is separated by distinctly shaped area rugs. Defined by suspended ceilings that are aptly illuminated with closely positioned light installations to avoid obstructing cinematic skyline views, the dining area boasts an expansive table for entertaining, as well as an array of light wooden furniture pieces contrasted by dark accents and finishes to give emphasis to the room’s eclectic design.

The focal point of the primary bedroom is a dramatic double wall-to-wall headboard with daring lines that promptly fills the space with a dynamic energy. Across the room is a bold, geometric stone desk, perfectly framed against a window displaying sprawling downtown sights. Textured and plastered jade-colored walls encase the room, evoking a regal suite-like atmosphere. The home’s second bedroom evokes a sense of playfulness with pops of color in the form of large-scale art that is contrasted by a light-hued desk at the foot of a modern upholstered bedframe. The bedroom’s intimate balcony is framed with striking drapery to enhance the city views.

Spa-like bathrooms are clad almost entirely in Bianco Dolomite marble, including the walls, floors, and counters atop custom vanities. Kohler tea-for-two soaking tubs are enhanced with book-matched marble and cove accent lighting for an ambient atmosphere. Soft linens, rustic elements, terracotta, wooden fixtures, and sculptural design create a haven for relaxation and respite.

The Penthouse’s expansive outdoor terrace offers the ultimate city escape akin to a well-tailored Paris apartment balcony with metropolitan views. frenchCALIFORNIA outfitted the landscaped terrace with comfortable exterior furnishings and lush florals in towering terracotta planters for a curated picturesque setting, complete with utility hookups for a coveted entertaining oasis.
